Deer Play

The fawns leaped and bounded and made biting gestures to each other. Circling, they made a playful running loop, celebrating their legs which allowed them to spring about like they knew something...they knew joy. They didn't think it in, they didn't hope it in, they just played. Mom was ahead of them and was leading them past the windows of Fewkes Cabin here on the Mesa Verde. They slept in the cold last night, with the threat of mountain lions about. They slept with the stars, and their mother, watching over them. They slept as part of God. And today they are out and about again, appreciating the Sun and the light streaks in the trees this early morning.
